The Journal

(Editor, Michael Ferguson.).

As most members will undoubtedly testify, the NHBS Journal, Horse Brass is as eagerly anticipated as are any of our meetings!  It is through the journal that individual members can inform us of their own finds and interests and each issue contains many articles that over the years have added a great deal of regional flavour and interest to the hobby, which, were it not for this excellent publication, may go otherwise unrecorded.

In this vein then, it is one of the aims of the society to add to the sum of knowledge on the subject twice yearly, with a series of in-depth articles that focus on, not only horse brasses, but a variety of related subjects such as heraldic subjects often found in horse brass design, maker’s marks, articles on saddlers and harness makers, horse parades as well as articles that focus on other forms of heavy horse harness decoration, such as ear caps and coloured worsted and fringing etc.

Above, the most recent editions of the journal that contain many varied articles on the subject.

As a society, it is the firm belief of the committee and membership that our excellent Journal has gone from strength to strength in recent years especially since the able and erudite editorship of Michael Ferguson. We hope that members will continue to send in their articles and photographs and, although we don’t expect anything too formal our editor cordially invites any budding author to please make a note of the guidelines as outlined below.
